Benefits of straighter teeth

Benefits of straighter teeth

Are you looking into whether it is really worth pursuing treatment to help you on the road to straighter teeth? Maybe you are already sold on going ahead with straightening and are looking to find out more about the benefits which you can expect as a result with Invisalign in Plymouth. If either of these things apply to you, or if you just happen to be interested, then you are invited to read on!

One advantage of straightening the teeth is that self-esteem may improve. This is because we can often feel self-conscious about issues with our teeth. There are many possible reasons for this such as malocclusions (underbite, overbite, crossbite, gapping or issues with jaw alignment) and we can be left feeling inhibited by our lack of confidence.

Another possible benefit of straighter teeth is the increased ability to make sure they are properly cleaned. Hard-to-reach areas may be made more accessible when teeth are straightened. For example, where flossing is made difficult, even impossible in some cases due to overcrowding or crookedness, realignment can make a notable difference to this. In instances where cleaning and flossing are difficult, there may be an (understandably) increased risk of plaque building up and tooth decay. Where good oral hygiene is introduced, the lifetime of a patient’s natural teeth may be extended.

Teeth straightening

Now that you know the benefits of teeth straightening, you may be keen to find somewhere local to you that can offer you the treatment you need. It is important to be aware that there are several possible avenues that could be explored when it comes to straightening the teeth. Which option is correct for you is entirely dependent on your personal needs, dental problems, and health conditions among other factors. It is imperative therefore that you open up a discussion about this with a dentist from Toronto Smile Centre or other similar clinics in your vicinity. Upon examination of your mouth and teeth, it may be decided that Invisalign clear aligners are a good option for you.

What is Invisalign?

Perhaps you have heard or seen the name Invisalign around, and with over 14 million patients worldwide having used (or currently using) their braces, this would be unsurprising. Whether you know it or not, there may even be someone in your life who has used these clear aligners to help alleviate their dental issues.

Invisalign clear aligners are a set of removable (somewhat similar to a sports mouth guard), almost invisible aligners which are used to progressively and gently move the teeth from one position to another. The aligners are tailor made to fit your mouth and teeth, helping to promote comfort and a secure fit. They can be trimmed to fit the gum line well which can help to prevent rubbing in this area. The aligners are worn one after the other, each one slightly different from the last and treatment can take somewhere between 6 and 24 months in many cases, but this is of course dependent on the severity of the needs at hand. They can be used to treat a number of problems including (but not limited to) crossbite, gapped teeth and overcrowding.

Many dentists are able to offer Invisalign to patients. If you would like to discuss this, or any other need you may have, contact your chosen practice. A dentist would be delighted to hear from you and help you on your way to a smile you can be confident in.
