Worried about fine lines and wrinkles? Visit your dentist!

It is certainly par for the course that as we age, our skin starts to become visibly lined and wrinkled. However, the mind doesn’t always change and can feel as young as a smooth-faced twenty-something. When you look in the mirror, it may be hard to accept that your body tells a different story from the one that’s playing in your mind. However, there are ways of giving the body a little extra time and enabling the skin to look smoother and fresher without having to go under the knife. While this may not be news to you, you may not be aware that in Ireland, only a doctor or a dentist can administer this treatment and that Botox Dublin is a prescription drug. It stands to reason that medically trained professionals would be the obvious choice, and dentists have expertise in facial anatomy, so when it comes to injecting the facial muscles, they could be the go-to for treatment.

How does botox work?

Botox is the brand name for the injectable solution botulinum toxin type A, and it is FDA-approved and made from non-animal sources. The toxin is made by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is used to treat areas such as frown lines, crow’s feet, or frown lines. A dentist will inject the area for treatment, targeting the facial muscles. Botulinum toxin type A blocks the nerve impulses in these muscles and allows them to relax; this then gives the appearance of smoother and more youthful skin. The treatment only takes a few minutes to administer, and it isn’t major surgery. This means that you will be able to continue with your day after you’ve had your treatment. The results will be visible 4 to 7 days after the treatment has been administered as well.

How long do the results last?

The thing you really need to know about Botox or anti-wrinkle injections, as it is also known, is that the results should not be permanent and will only last for about three months. This means that you would need to have repeat treatments to maintain your fresh-faced appearance. As the treatment only takes 5 to 10 minutes to administer, it certainly won’t have much impact on your busy schedule to get a treatment fitted in.

Botox can be used elsewhere!

While Botox is well-known for being used to make faces appear more youthful, it is less renowned for helping with other issues. Botox can be used to treat excessive sweating, as well as severe neck and shoulder spasms. It can also be used for other issues, such as migraines and overactive bladders, for example. The benefits of Botox clearly extend beyond just looking younger, and it is well worth discussing other uses of it if you think you may require this.

Consultation

If you’re looking for a treatment that can help you to look younger, then book in with your dentist to discuss Botox. You can ask as many questions as you need to feel fully informed about what is involved and decide whether this is the right treatment, and your dentist will be happy to explain everything to you. Remember that this isn’t a permanent treatment, and you can feel reassured that you will be in safe hands with your dentist.
